We had 15 enthusiastic performances from freshmen through seniors for the recent Poetry Out Loud competition.  First place went to Kennedy Shamblin, senior,  for her performance of "Do Not" by Stevie Smith.  Second place went to Emily Mollica, sophomore, for her performance of "La Belle Dame Sans Merci: A Ballad" by John Keats.  Third place went to Jeffrey Rahman, sophomore, for his performance of "Poor Angels" by Edward Hirsch.  Kennedy will go on to represent Stanwood HIgh and compete at the Regional Finals for Poetry Out Loud at the Burlington Library  on Thursday, Feb. 1st, at 7 p.m.

On Thursday, February 1st, we will host an informational night for families.  We will share information on Running Start, College In The High School, and Advanced Placement (AP) opportunities.  This event will be in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at 6:30 p.m.

The first semester will end on Wednesday, January 31st.  Students need to have all work in before that day.  Remember the semester grade counts for gpa and for meeting graduation credit requirements.

Congratulations to SHS Knowledge Bowl. Our teams placed first, third and seventh at the January 11th tournament at Anacortes High School. All three of our teams have done so well this season, they have qualified to compete in the district tournament next month.

Students who took the October PSAT can get their scores online through the College Board website: https://www.collegeboard.org/. They will need to create an account. It is best for students to create a College Board account so that their tests scores can be used to help them with studying for the SAT in the future. It also connects to the SAT practice through Kahn Academy. We also have paper copies of the score reports and test booklets in the counseling office that students can pick up.
