SHS Principal SearchStanwood High will welcome a new principal starting next school year — and you can help shape the search.

After 17 years as principal at Stanwood High School, Christine Del Pozo will transition to the role of Executive Director of Human Resources for Stanwood-Camano School District on July 1. Del Pozo replaces Maurene Stanton, who is retiring June 30 after 9 years as the Executive Director of Human Resources for the District.

Stanwood High School students and the community will have opportunities to provide input and feedback on the search for the new principal via surveys and community meetings. Look for links at www.stanwood.wednet.edu, on District social media accounts and in weekly school newsletters throughout this month.

A diverse team composed of more than 20 members of the community, staff, students, and the District Equity Team will be involved in candidate interviews later this month. The selection would be announced in the days after the interviews.

As part of the job changes and in a cost-neutral move, the District is also seeking a full-time District Athletic Director. These changes will allow principals and assistant principals at high and middle schools to focus their efforts on our district's strategic plan, goals, and strategies. We are grateful for the dedicated work from our assistant principals as they skillfully managed these increasingly demanding duties.

Del Pozo came to Stanwood High in 2005 as an assistant principal and became principal a year later. During her tenure, she helped oversee the construction of the new Stanwood High School campus, which opened in 2021. In all, Del Pozo has worked 28 years in education.

Prior to becoming Director of Human Resources, Stanton served as principal at Lincoln Hill High and Lincoln Academy from 2012-2014. Previously, she worked in administration positions at the Northwest Educational Service District 189 in Anacortes and Arlington School District. In all, Stanton has worked 36 years in education.
